PUB managers who moved to neighbouring premises in Kelsall have vowed Chester’s Folk Festival will still go on.

The Morris Dancer, in Chester Road, has traditionally hosted the annual event.

But it currently sits empty after managers Paul Sweeney and Rachel Jones moved to The Royal Oak, on the edge of the village.

The festival will go ahead on Kelsall Green, behind the Morris Dancer, as planned and organisers have confirmed they have obtained a licence for a beer tent.

But festival organisers have agreed to move many of its events to The Royal Oak to continue the partnership with Paul and Rachel.

“The success of the folk festival has been traditionally the day-trippers who come and enjoy some fantastic music and a great atmosphere, especially when the sun shines,” said Paul.

“It is a great shame that we had to leave the Morris Dancer. We wanted each business to complement each other.

“The festival organisers are sticking with us because we have delivered a good service.

“We will be creating a festival food menu and we are organising an outdoor barbecue and activities for families and children.

“It’s going to be another great weekend in Kelsall.”

A programme of folk music shows, workshops and talks will be held at The Royal Oak.

Chester Folk Festival takes place from Friday-Monday, May 28-31.
