A man had to be rescued after a fire broke out in an Ellesmere Port flat on Sunday (January 3).

A pan left unattended on a cooker caused smoke to fill the property on Croft Court shortly before 5pm.

Firefighters were at the scene of the incident for around an hour, using a hose reel to extinguish the blaze.

A spokesperson for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said the man was taken to hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.
