A MAN who stole thousands of pounds from Cheshire West and Chester Council has pleaded guilty to fraud and money laundering.

Majuran Selvarajah, 32, claimed he had made an overpayment of £4,000 in his council tax before cashing in a cheque for his own personal gain.

Appearing before Chester Crown Court on Monday (January 2013) Selvarajah, who now lives in Lathom Road, London, pleaded guilty to one count of fraud and one count of money laundering against the authority.

The court heard how on July 28 2011 Selvarajah told CWaC he had made an overpayment of £4,000 to the authority, before cashing in a cheque refunding the amount on August 8 the same year.

Selvarajah, who spoke to the court through a translator, has worked in several food outlets across the region and country, including Yo Sushi.

He was bailed and is due to appear before Chester Crown Court on February 4 for sentencing.
