A MAN is facing prison after admitting threatening a family and causing criminal damage.

Robert Slowen, 34, who was living in Northwich at the time of the incident, kicked the front door of a property in the town so hard the glass smashed. Police who attended the incident also found a crossbow near the scene and bolts to fire it in Slowen's possession.

Slowen, now living near Scunthorpe, admitted damaging the front door in Hemming Street and using threatening words or behaviour. He appeared before Vale Royal Magistrates Court on Thursday. A charge of possessing a crossbow in public had previously been dropped.

Patrick Hutchinson, prosecuting, told the court: 'This was a frightening incident for the family involved. A man and his sister were in the property, they heard something and went outside and said to the defendant that he was drunk.

'The defendant then tried to grab the male and said to him, "at least I know where you live". He tried to punch him and then left. They then heard another bang coming from the front door - he was kicking the door and the glass smashed.'

Mr Hutchinson said that when police arrived they found a crossbow over a wall and 10 bolts in the defendant's pocket.

Chairman of the bench John Moles adjourned the case for pre-sentence reports and told the defendant that magistrates were keeping all options open, including custody.

He was released on conditional bail, told not to interfere with prosecution witnesses and ordered not to enter Hemming Street. He will be sentenced on January 19.
