A MAN found dead in woodland near Broxton last week has been identified by police.

58-year-old John Evans from Farndon was discovered collapsed by emergency services on the evening of Monday July 2 following an anonymous phone call from a member of the public.

Police are not treating the death as suspicious but are keen to trace the individual who made the 999 call at 11.20pm from a payphone on Chester Road in Wrexham.

Mr Evans was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives are also making enquiries into a white Mercedes car seen in the Broxton area that evening and are currently examining CCTV footage from the local area.

It is believed this car may be connected to the man who made the 999 call.

A Cheshire police spokesperson said: “We urge this individual to come forward as a matter of urgency, similarly anyone who may be able to assist in progressing these enquiries should contact Cheshire Police on 101 quoting incident 1116 of July 2.”

Officers in the local area will continue to provide a high visibility presence in the area to offer reassurance to the community.
