THE Incredible Hulk got angry and threw a man through a city centre hat shop in Chester.

But the Hulk Gethin Alun Roberts, 19, who was out in Chester in his fancy dress costume, escaped custody when he appeared at Chester Crown Court on Friday charged with GBH.

The court heard Roberts was dressed as the Hulk and had been to a fancy dress party.

Victim Mark Robinson, 24, and his friend Nick Edgar left Rosies nightclub at 2.30am In November and as they walked along Northgate Street they saw Roberts dressed as the Hulk.

Mr Edgar told him he looked good, but Roberts who had been drinking appeared to take exception to the comment, became aggressive and asked him if he was gay?

The two men thought nothing more of it and walked towards the library but they again saw the Hulk near a hat shop and Mr Edgar again commented he looked good.

The Hulk slammed Mr Edgar against the shop window.

Mr Robinson went to intervene but then felt an impact as the defendant grabbed him and pushed him through the hat shop window, explained prosecutor Jayne Morris.

The victim was taken by ambulance to hospital with superficial injuries behind the ear which needed 12 stitches.

Police arrested Roberts, of Maes Hafod in Ruthin, North Wales, at 5.15am at a local Travel Lodge.

Julian Goode, defending, said that Roberts had no previous convictions, he had been frank in interview and had pleaded guilty.

He was placed on a 12 month community order under which he must carry out 200 hours unpaid work.

Roberts was also sent on alcohol awareness and thinking skills workbook courses run by the probation service.
