A MAN who was seriously injured in an incident after a night out with friends has lost his three-day fight for life.
Police have launched a murder inquiry after the 28-year-old man from Runcorn sustained major head injuries as he walked home along Boston Avenue in the early hours of Saturday morning.
The victim, who has not been named, was kept in intensive care until Tuesday afternoon, when his devastated family made the heartbreaking decision to switch off his life support machine.
He is thought to have been enjoying a night out with friends and was on his way home when the incident happened at around 2.25am.
He sustained serious injuries, including wounds to the head, and was taken to Warrington General Hospital but later transferred to the Intensive Care Unit at Arrowe Park hospital in Wirral.
On Tuesday afternoon the decision was taken to switch off the machines keeping him alive.
A friend of the family said: 'Nobody who knew him can believe he is really gone. It seems such a waste of a life.'
