A MAN was slashed with a knife by a gang of would-be muggers.

The 30-year-old victim was walking towards Asda in Ellesmere Port town centre when he was attacked.

He sustained two small cuts on his arm and was treated at the Countess of Chester.

Cheshire police spokeswoman Jacqui Hanson said the attack happened at 10pm on Friday.

She explained: 'The victim, who lives in the Port, was walking through the Knot pub car park towards Asda.

'As he reached the gates at Asda he was confronted by a gang of men who demanded his property.

'When the victim replied that he had nothing to give, he was elbowed in the face, causing him to fall to the floor.

'As he tried to get up, he was pushed down and saw that one of the men had a knife.

'This was then used to inflict two cuts to the victim's arm.

'The offenders made off empty handed.'

She said there were about five youths in the gang, but only two took part in the attack.

The one who elbowed the victim in the face and then cut him is white, 5ft 6in tall, of skinny build, with a shaved head.

He spoke with a local accent and was wearing dark clothing.

The second offender, who pushed him back down to the floor, was white, with a shaved head and wearing tracksuit bottoms.

Witnesses or anyone with information about the attack should call Ellesmere Port CID on 01244 350222 or Crimestoppers in confidence on 0800 555111.
