TWO Malpas children sacrificed their birthday gifts in order to raise funds to help save the tiger.

Brother and sister Annie and Jacob Buckeridge aged seven and five, of Overton Heath Lane decided they would hold a joint party and asked friends to donate money to protect the animal.

Mum Kate said: “They believe they have enough toys already and that it is much more rewarding to see an animal have a better chance of survival than to get toys that may be only played with for a few days, before being recycled or even thrown away.”

The siblings invited all their friends from Tilston Parochial Church of England Primary school and family members to two parties held in the summer to raise the funds.

They did tiger face painting, tiger mask making, stick the tail on the tiger, and a tiger treasure hunt to raise £285.

Annie and Jacob decided to use £100 to adopt two tigers at Chester Zoo with the remainder was given to the World Wildlife Fund.

On Saturday they visited the tigers and saw a plaque with their names on it which is erected near the enclosure.
