PARKING problems for cyclists in Chester could be solved thanks to the ParkThatBike scheme which is busy giving free cycle stands to businesses and voluntary sector groups.

The ParkThatBike scheme was launched in March, but already dozens of organisations have applied for their free stands. Š

Applicants include a restaurant, a scout hut, a garden centre and a community hall.

Scheme organiser Peter Andrews said: “I'm delighted to see so many people taking up the offer of free cycle parking, and I've been amazed at the incredible diversity of applicant.

“We're clearly meeting a real need with the ParkThatBike scheme.”

The scheme offers up to four cycle stands free of charge. Each stand holds two bikes neatly and securely. Š

Applicants are responsible for installing them on their own property in a location agreed with ParkThatBike. The scheme is one of several initiatives being run as part of the Government-funded Cycle Chester project.

Mr Andrews emphasises the importance of good quality cycle parking: “It makes cycling easier and more convenient, and it tells the world that you're an environmentally aware organisation that's doing its bit to encourage one of the very Greenest forms of travel.”

To apply for free stands download an application form from the Cycle Chester website www.cyclechester.com or phone 01594 564 344 and ask for a paper copy to be mailed to you.
