TEN fire appliances were sent to a major house fire in Winsford yesterday.

At 3.45am on Saturday, two appliances from Winsford were sent to reports of a house fire at Beckenham Grove.

On arrival the crews found a fire involving a terraced property and requested a further eight appliances sent to the scene. Appliances from Middlewich, Tarporley, Holmes Chapel, Sandbach, Knutsford and Crewe were sent together with the Service's Incident Control Unit and a further appliance from Northwich.

The fire involved the ground and first floor and roof space of the property and premises either side were evacuated. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used two main jets and three hose reel jets to fight the fire and medium expansion foam to limit smoke from travelling to other properties.

Residents in neighbouring properties had to be evacuated and the immediate area cordoned off with gas and electricity supplies to the properties isolated.

The number of appliances was reduced to three at around 8am as crews continued to identify remaining hot spots and damp down.

Fire invesitigation officers are returning to the scene this morning to look into the cause of the blaze.
