There is severe congestion on the northbound carriageway of the M6 in Cheshire this afternoon (Monday, July 18) after a caravan overturned on the Thelwall Viaduct.

Three of four lanes are closed between J20, A50 (Lymm Interchange) and J21, A57 (Woolston), causing congestion back to J19, A556 (Knutsford).

BBC Travel describes the incident, which happened just before midday, as ‘severe’.

North West Motorway Police are also warning motorists that they are recording the registration numbers of drivers using mobile phones as they pass.
