There are severe delays of around two hours following a serious crash on the M6 in Cheshire.

A car and a truck crashed on the Northbound stretch of road at junction 19 for Knutsford.

NW Motorway Police tweeted that they are expected to close the southbound stretch of road shortly to allow an air ambulance to land.

The tweet said: "Regarding the RTC at J19, M6 we may need to stop the southbound carriageway shortly for a moment whilst the air ambulance lands. Thanks for your patience."

The smash was reported at about 11.40am.

UPDATE: Child seriously injured

We now have an update on the casualties suffered in today’s crash.

An ambulance spokeswoman confirmed that three patients were taken to hospital, two to the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, and another patient to Manchester Royal Infirmary.

Among the injured are a mother and child, police confirmed. The child has ‘serious but not critical injuries’.

Travel time is around 1 hour and 55 minutes. Lanes one and two (of three) were closed as well and the exit slip road until around 2pm.

Paramedics are treating five patients at the scene, a spokeswoman for NWAS said.

She said:

“We have been called to reports of a road traffic collision. We are treating five patients at the scene. We sent a rapid response vehicle, two ambulances and an air ambulance.”

Paramedics were called just after 11am to the scene.
