A cocoa butter spillage in Hapsford is causing rush-hour delays for motorists on the M56 .

The M56 westbound slip road at junction 14 near Hapsford services was closed shortly before 2pm today (October 28).

Traffic is still reported to be very heavy heading towards Chester .

A quantity of cocoa butter which was being carried on a lorry has spilt into the road, causing a number of vehicles to skid.

No accidents are believed to have taken place.

The road is reported to be very slippery and police are urging motorists to avoid the area.

Cheshire Police and Highways England are currently at the scene.

A police spokesman said: “It appears a vehicle carrying cocoa butter has leaked into the road.

“The road is very slippery and has caused a few vehicles to skid.”
