Traffic is heavy for commuters returning home on the M56 following two accidents over lunchtime.

A man was trapped in a camper van after it is believed to have overturned on the westbound carriageway between junction 14 at Chester and 15 at Hapsford about 12.40pm.

Emergency services attended the scene of the accident, which happened on the central reservation and led to the closure of two lanes.

North West Ambulance Service has confirmed the casualty was checked on scene but did not suffer any injuries.

The collision followed an earlier two-vehicle accident about 12.25pm, again westbound, between junctions 12 and 14. The ambulance service attended but there were no injuries.

Traffic travelling in the opposite eastbound carriageway of the M56 around junction 12 is also slow moving because of emergency repairs. The BBC reports knock-on effects including congestion on the A540 Parkgate Road to the A5117 junction.

Congestion is reported following an accident which has left the A550 Welsh Road partially blocked, with slow traffic north-bound between the B5463 Ledsham Road junction and the Welsh Road junction.

The incident is affecting traffic from Shotwick towards Hooton. There is also heavy traffic on the A5117 eastbound between Backford Cross, near the A41 junction, and Little Stanney, close to junction 10 of the M53.
