Motorists travelling eastbound on the M56 towards Manchester Airport are facing difficulties this morning because of concerns for a man on a bridge.
Police were called to junction five of the motorway at about 7am this morning.
And there have been reports of congestion affecting the section between junctions five and nine as well as surrounding roads.
Manchester Airport tweeted: “Be aware that the M56 Airport Spur closed both directions due to a man on the bridge. Police are on scene and diversion routes being set up.”
And the Manchester Evening News reported: “The M56 closure will obviously have an effect on passengers arriving to catch flights at Manchester Airport.”
At about 9.30am, North West Motorway Police tweeted to say the incident had been concluded although delays will clearly continue for some time.
A spokesperson said: "All closures have now been removed at the Airport Spur, many thanks for you patience."
