The M56 was at a standstill after a car crashed into the central reservation.

Drivers have hit delays eastbound after the crash between junctions 14 Hapsford and 12 for Runcorn on Thursday (November 24).

The accident was reported at about 2pm.

North West Motorway Police said the car had spun before colliding with the barrier separating the two carriageways.

All lanes have now been reopened but Highways England said drivers should expect delays of up to 30 minutes.

Queues heading towards Manchester had stretched back to junction 15, the exchange with the M53.

It is the second crash of the day on this notorious stretch of M56 after a accident involving a van and a lorry on the J14 slip road during Thursday morning rush hour.
