A lane was closed on the M56 between Preston Brook and Runcorn following an accident involving four vehicles.

The incident, which happened just after 1.45pm today (Saturday, October 24) resulted in one lane of three being closed on the M56 westbound at junction 12 A557 at Runcorn.

Traffic was very slow and congestion backed up to junction 11 A56 at Preston Brook heading towards Chester.

However, police reported at 3.21pm that the accident had been cleared, all lanes had been reopened and traffic was starting to ease.

This incident came just a few days after chaos was caused for more than 12 hours on the M56 after a tanker overturned near the Hapsford junction on Tusday afternoon.
