Police needed to shut the M53 completely as the investigation into Ellia Arathoon's murder goes on.

All lanes have now reopened.

The motorway was closed in both directions between junctions 9 and 10 from 2.30pm for 20 minutes on Friday (November 4).

Officers had expected the road block to last for half an hour.

A single northbound lane had also been throughout the morning.

Cheshire Police say the steps were necessary following the discovery of possible human remains close to the M53 on Thursday.

Detective Inspector Stephen Jones, from the Cheshire Police Major Investigation team said: “I would like to thank the public for their patience and the support that they have provided throughout the investigation.

“Unfortunately, due to the complexity of the crime scene we are unable to avoid the road closure.

"However, we are doing all that we can to minimise the disruption."
