A WET afternoon failed to dampen centuries of tradition as Chester’s new lord mayor, Cllr John Ebo, processed to the cathedral for his civic service.

The service, attended by the Duke of Westminster, visiting mayors, honorary aldermen, honorary freemen and councillors as well as members of the public, marked the beginning of his year of office.

The procession from the town hall included deputy lord mayor Cllr Neil Ritchie, sheriff Cllr Hilarie McNae and honorary recorder Judge Elgan Edwards.

The address was given by Fr Paul Shaw of St. Werburgh's Church.
