The M6 in Cheshire has been hit by severe delays following a collision involving three lorries, a car and a van this morning (Thursday, May 3).
The crash happened southbound between junction 17, for Sandbach, and junction 16, for Crewe at around 6.20am.
It is unclear at this stage if anybody is injured.
Traffic was temporarily held for a short period of time, but one lane has opened to allow traffic to pass.
Two lanes remain shut and there are reports of tailbacks building up to junction 18 for Middlewich.
A tweet from Highways England said: "Traffic has been released between J17 and J16 due to a collision involving 3 HGVs, 1 van and a car. 2 lanes remain closed. Delays in the area."
One person injured in crash
A spokesperson for Cheshire Fire said:
At 6.11am this morning police were called to a collision on the M6 southbound between junction 17 and 16.
The collision involved a number of vehicles. One person is being assessed by paramedics.
Two lanes are shut causing tailbacks and delays. If you can, please avoid the area until the carriageway is clear.
Two lanes remain closed
Lanes one and two remain closed southbound, between junction 17, for Sandbach, and junction 16.
Travel time through the area is currently one hour 20 minutes.
Queues of nine miles
Traffic is currently queuing for around nine miles on the southbound M6 from junction 16 to junction 18.
Travel time of 90 minutes
Traffic service Inrix say the delays on the southbound M6 are now one hour 30 minutes.
