Your Housing Group has started work on the much anticipated Kingswood extra care scheme on Kingsway in Newton, Chester.
Kingswood will house 82 retirement living apartments on the site of the former Woodfield School which closed its doors to pupils several years ago.
Kathy Cowell OBE DL, chair of Your Housing Group, marked the beginning of construction work at the £10 million development by welcoming Local Councillors – Cllr Adrian Walmsley and Cllr Tom Parry, local dignitaries and key partners to a sod cutting ceremony on March 12, 2014.
Councillor Adrian Walmsley commented “Kingswood is a hugely important development for Newton, I have been involved with this site for the past seven years – it has been a long time coming but is an exciting development for the people of Newton. I am looking forward to seeing it complete next year and welcoming not just the residents that will be occupying the Extra Care premises but the wider local community.”
All of the 82 new apartments at Kingswood, which are being built by Cruden Construction, have been designed to meet the needs of people aged 55 or over and are available for a mix of shared ownership, rented and outright sale.
The extra care housing provision at the development will be designed to create a community where residents will be able to live an independent life in a socially supportive environment. The onsite care and support team will provide 24/7 help and support that is flexible to meet individual needs, providing a safe and secure environment and most importantly, giving residents peace of mind.
Funding for Kingswood includes a grant from the Homes & Communities Agency (HCA) and forms part of Your Housing Group’s affordable homes programme. In total Your Housing Group has a development programme in excess of £50m and will deliver 1,433 new homes across the Group by spring 2015.
