A cabinet minister braved the cold weather and visited a Chester ice cream farm to taste its unique product.

The Secretary of State for the Environment and Rural Affairs, Liz Truss, was invited to visit the Backford Belles farm by Chester MP Stephen Mosley.

Stephen and the minister got to taste one of 20 flavours the farm has on offer at any one time and learned how the family has diversified and expanded into ice cream.

Mr Mosley said, “We’re very proud of the Littler farming family, they have an excellent dairy herd and have successfully diversified into high quality ice cream. They have now started to expand into retail and are already supplying several local restaurants. It is a small very local and family orientated business that is flourishing in Chester.”

Mrs Truss said, “I really enjoyed visiting Backford Belles with Stephen and tasting their award-winning Jersey ice cream. It was great to see a family business going from strength to strength, developing new products and providing people with a place where they can not only enjoy fantastic ice cream but also see where it’s come from.”
