A crash involving a car and a lorry has closed the A548 Sealand Road in both directions.

The crash, which has been described by police as "serious", happened between Western Avenue and A494 / B5441 Welsh Road (Drome Corner).

Two air ambulances, two paramedics in rapid response vehicles and a crew in an emergency ambulance have been at the scene, according to the ambulance service.

Officers from North Wales Police are also at the scene, and North Wales Fire and Rescue Service have confirmed they have two crews from Deeside in attendance.

Flintshire council say they have "no indications" how long the road will be closed for.

Fatal accident

A man has died and a woman is fighting for her life after a car and lorry collided. The crash, involving a Renault Megane and an HGV. took place just before noon on the A548, Sealand Road, Flintshire.

Family liaison

Police Family Liaison officers are currently with the man’s family and the coroner has been informed. Anyone who witnessed collision is asked to call the Roads Policing Unit on 101 quoting reference W014858.

Police statement - fatal accident

Sgt Emlyn Hughes of the Roads Policing Unit said: “Sadly the male driver of the Renault Megane was pronounced dead at the scene and the female passenger was airlifted to hospital with serious life threatening injuries.”

“We are advising motorists to avoid the area and use alternative routes, as the road is likely to remain closed for several hours.”

He added: “I am keen to hear from anyone who may have been travelling along the road at the time and who witnessed the collision.”

A spokesman said:

We were called at approximately 12pm this afternoon to reports of a road traffic collision involving a car and a lorry on Sealand Road, Sealand.

Sam Tulley, road space manager with Flintshire Council, said: “We currently have no indications as to how long the road will be closed for, an update will be sent as soon as we have anymore information.”
