Four car pile-up on A55 causes eight-mile long tailbacks

Motorists faced eight miles of queues after a four-vehicle crash on the A55 this morning. One lane of the eastbound carriageway was closed for more than an hour following the pile-up at J33A for Northop Hall East at 7.40am.

No serious injuries

The Welsh Ambulance Service tell me that they did attend the scene. Thankfully nobody was seriously hurt.

A spokesman said: “We were called at approximately 7.40am this morning to reports of a multi-vehicle road traffic collision on the A55 eastbound near Northop. We sent a crew in an emergency ambulance and a number of patients were assessed at the scene, but did not require hospital treatment.

Eight miles of queues

At the moment there are queues of about eight miles. The crash has happened at Northop heading eastbound (towards Chester) and traffic is backed up to Pentre Halkyn.

There are also delays between Northop and Ewloe heading eastbound.

Lane re-opens

Traffic Wales have tweeted to say that the lane has now re-opened. However, they are warning of delays from Pentre Halkyn back to the A494 at Ewloe.
