Four car pile-up on A55 causes eight-mile long tailbacks

Motorists faced eight miles of queues after a four-vehicle crash on the A55 this morning. One lane of the eastbound carriageway was closed for more than an hour following the pile-up at J33A for Northop Hall East at 7.40am.

No serious injuries

The Welsh Ambulance Service tell me that they did attend the scene. Thankfully nobody was seriously hurt.

A spokesman said: “We were called at approximately 7.40am this morning to reports of a multi-vehicle road traffic collision on the A55 eastbound near Northop. We sent a crew in an emergency ambulance and a number of patients were assessed at the scene, but did not require hospital treatment.

Traffic easing

Most of the queues seem to have cleared now I am told.

There are still delays along the A55 in Flintshire due to the accident.

Eight miles of queues

At the moment there are queues of about eight miles. The crash has happened at Northop heading eastbound (towards Chester) and traffic is backed up to Pentre Halkyn.

There are also delays between Northop and Ewloe heading eastbound.

Lane re-opens

Traffic Wales have tweeted to say that the lane has now re-opened. However, they are warning of delays from Pentre Halkyn back to the A494 at Ewloe.

Long delays

Traffic is queuing as a result of the crash. This is what it looks like at Pentre Halkyn (J32A) - the crash has happened at Northop Hall (J33A).

Fire service not in attendance

I have just checked in with the fire service who tell me that they have not been called to the crash.

Traffic - Wrexham

Heavy traffic on A525 Ruthin Road inbound near A483 J4 (Coedpoeth). Travel time is four minutes.

Reports of a car on its roof

Motorists report that one car is on its roof.

One lane closed

Reports suggest that one lane has been closed due to the incident.

We believe that four vehicles are involved at J33A for Northop Hall East.

It seems to be lane two of two affected.

Emergency services on their way

Police have tweeted some details about the crash and are warning that there are delays.
