RESIDENTS' views should be taken into account on proposals to change the face of local government, says Conservative County Councillor Eveleigh Moore Dutton.

Cllr Moore Dutton put forward a motion on the issue which will be debated by the executive before being referred back to the council on May 17.

She believes residents should be fully consulted on the Government White Paper which could result in an enhanced two tier or unitary local government for Cheshire.

'I am disappointed that a referendum will not take place because that would have been the truest test of public opinion on such an important issue,' she said.

'It would have focused on the identified options in a balanced manner.

'And it is particularly regrettable because the White Paper, Strong and Prosperous Comm unities, concentrates on giving residents and communities a greater say over the services they receive.'
