PEOPLE braved the lashing rain and high winds on Saturday night to support Chester Lions Club’s annual fireworks display at the racecourse.

The fun started at 5.30pm with a funfair, clowns and fire eaters and entertainment from Chester Catholic High School’s City Jazz Band and Dee 106.3 radio station.

Toddlers were treated to their own special fireworks display at 6.45pm before the main display at 7.30pm.

Lion Ron Cain said: “We would like to thank all those who turned up despite the awful weather.

“The Lions Club has put on a fireworks display for the people of Chester for 40 years now and we didn’t want to disappoint, even though it was raining heavily.”

The event was attended by Lord Mayor of Chester Brian Bailey and his wife Raewyn, hosted by Lions Club president Gareth Williams and his wife Annette.

Rod added: “We would like to thank Chester City Council, Dee 106.3, the Chester Race Company, the New Century Lions Club, St John’s Ambulance, the Catholic high school and the sea cadets.”

Proceeds from the event will be distributed to local charities.
