THE vice-chairman of Stanney Lane's Royal British Legion has been cleared of sexual assaulting a man with learning difficulties.
Graham Proctor, 58, of Lancing Road, Ellesmere Port, denied the allegation made against him by a man in his 40s, who had helped run a disco for adults with disabilities at the club.
The man, who cannot be named, said Proctor had made an advance, rubbing his private parts and making lewd suggestions at a disco night in February.
But although Proctor admitted grabbing the man's genitals, he described the action as 'skylarking' and said he realised the motion had been inappropriate.
Defending, Brett Williamson said Proctor's friends had explained that he was a man with a 'strange sense of humour' but had never shown any hint of homosexual tendencies.
The jury of nine men and three woman took just an hour to dismiss the charge and clear him of any wrongdoing.
