CONTRACTORS have been appointed to start work on improving an uneven footpath.

The Leech Lane track in Malpas is set to be restored to a high enough standard for the highway authority to adopt it, following a 20-year battle.

Hampton-based building contractor JPCS has been appointed to complete the building work over the summer following the joint efforts of Malpas Parish Council, Cheshire West and Chester Council, the Rural West Partnership Board and Chester & District Housing Trust to fund the project.

Contract administrator Russ McGinn said that the work is likely to begin in the school summer holidays when less people will be using the lane.

He said: “We’re going to try and get it started in August when the kids are off which would make things a lot easier.

“Everything seems to be going very well and the ball is finally rolling.”
