COMMUNITY spirit will be alive and well in Chester’s Garden Quarter this weekend, thanks to Chester Racecourse.
A grant from the racecourse’s £25,000 community chest fund will mean neighbours and friends can enjoy two days of sport, music, entertainment and food at The Garden Quarter Big Weekend on Saturday and Sunday.
Activities will include a family sports day on the Roodee, entertainment at The Bouverie and joining the nation for The Big Lunch in Cambrian Road on Sunday, when locals are encouraged to take a dish, compare prized vegetables and enter their cat or dog in the pet parade.
Richard Thomas, chief executive of Chester Racecourse, said: “Our community chest fund is a terrific way to support the many communities in Chester promoting sport, culture and well-being.
“The Garden Quarter is our most immediate neighbour and it is wonderful that we can support them in something exceedingly worthwhile.”
Matt Baker, co-chairman of the Garden Quarter Association, said: “We are so grateful that the funding from the Chester Racecourse community chest has enabled us to pull out all the stops on another event for the whole community.”
Other organisations to benefit from the fund include the City of Chester Swimming Club, the Royal Chester Rowing Club and Chester Netball Club.
