The latest steak house opens in Chester this Friday (September 9) following a £1.3m fit-out.

Miller & Carter Chester, within the HQ building, will sit alongside newcomers like Opera Grill and Coast to Coast plus established restaurants Upstairs at the Grill, Blackhouse Grill and Hickory’s Smokehouse.

But deputy manager Ben Davies is confident there is room for everybody.

“We offer a different price point to the existing restaurants,” said Ben, who hails from Chester. “So it hits all different markets.”

Talking of trends, the deputy manager mentions there is the possibility his company may let their unit next door as a coffee shop over coming months.

During the week, the 144-cover Miller & Carter Steakhouse will offer a lunch menu with one course priced £7.95 and two courses for £10.95. The à la carte menu is available all the time with steaks the speciality. The cheapest is an 8oz rump for £14.50, while the most expensive comes in at £25.95 for an 18oz ribeye or a 16oz t-bone. Sharing steaks include a long bone tomahawk costing £49.95.

All steaks come with parsley butter, fries, the signature onion loaf, glazed beef tomato, lettuce wedge and steak sauce.

And each steak dish must meet nine criteria before being passed as perfect and ready to serve. Other options include burgers, grilled chicken, lamb and ribs, salmon, sea bass, pasta and salads.

There is a range of different styles of furniture within the restaurant but everything seems to fit together. And the lighting is described by Ben as ‘red glow’ to create ‘a buzz’ in the atmosphere.

A soft opening has been taking place this week during what are called ‘rehearsals’ so family and friends of staff and council workers from upstairs were invited to try the menu for a 50% discount. Tomorrow (Thursday) there will be a preview event for up to 300 guests. The opening proper is on Friday.

Current offers include a free glass of wine for guests if they sign up to the email newsletter. Guests can also enjoy Cork & Cleaver Wednesdays where they’ll get steak and a glass of wine for £15.

There’s also a festive offer for guests who book a meal between November 24 and December 10 before October 31 – each diner receives a complimentary glass of prosecco.
