Drivers are facing delays on the M56 after a car span out of control and blocked two lanes of the motorway.

Congestion is building in both directions after the black Renault Clio span eastbound near junction 14 at Hapsford.

A Cheshire Police spokesman said two elderly female occupants of the vehicle 'did not appear to be seriously injured'.

Officers were called to the crash at 3.50pm on Tuesday (March 29).

He said: "The collision involved a black Renault Clio and there were two elderly females in the vehicle.

"The motorway was closed in both directions at 4.10pm for the air ambulance, but it was called off as the two women do not appear to be seriously injured.

"Officers are currently working to clear the area."

Tailbacks are currently stretching as far back as J11 westbound and have spilled over onto the M53 eastbound at J15

Drivers heading east are also facing queues as they join the M6 from the M56 at junction 9 due to a lorry shedding its load southbound near junction 20.

Yesterday there were delays on the M53 due to an accident near to Cheshire Oaks.
