RENTAL homes in Frodsham owned by Graham Macleod are the first in Vale Royal to be vetted and declared safe and up to standard under the borough council’s new Landlord Accreditation Scheme.
Mr Macleod is the first to sign up to the scheme which certifies properties offered for rent are of a good standard and landlords manage them fairly.
Under the scheme, council officers are invited to visit properties to see they comply with legal standards and are in a good state of repair.
Landlords are then asked to sign an undertaking to manage their properties according to a “fair protocol”, including, for example, repairs to be completed in a guaranteed timescale.
A framed certificate is given to each accredited landlord to display in their property, and prospective tenants are being encouraged to look out for this.
Cllr Ann McEllin, Vale Royal’s lead councillor for strategic housing, said: “In the present economic climate people are finding it hard to get a mortgage and are increasingly turning to rented properties, and this scheme goes a long way to ensuring they find a home to rent with confidence.”
Mr Mcleod said: “The scheme is excellent. It gives landlords a standard to work within and provides them with peace of mind they have made adequate safety provisions for tenants.”
