A GOLF day and Caribbean evening is taking place at Carden Park on Friday, April 20, to celebrate the Lady Taverners’ 25th anniversary.

The Lady Taverners is a dedicated arm of the Lord’s Taverners cricket charity, buying minibuses, specially adapted wheelchairs and any sort of sports equipment to help disabled young people to enjoy sport.

The Lord’s Taverners was started in the Tavern at Lord’s in 1950 by a group of actors and an architect over a pint after a Test match.

Joan Morecombe, wife of the comedian Eric, was the first Lady Taverners chairman when the committee was formed in 1987.

The event at Carden Park will be dedicated to ladies cricket legend Rachael Heyhoe-Flint, thanking her for all the work she has done during her 10 years as president.

Rachael was the first lady member of the MCC and has now taken her place in the House of Lords after being made a baroness last year. Rachael was captain of the England ladies cricket team.

The event at Carden Park is being organised jointly by Lori Wilkins-Parker and her Chester and North Wales committee and Chris Talbot who started the committee in the region 15 years ago.

Rachael and her celebrity friends will be playing in the golf day.

The evening will have a Caribbean theme. The Barbados tourist board is one of the sponsors, along with Iceland Frozen Foods, Manor House Stables and Hastings Hotels in Northern Ireland.

BBC Flog It auctioneer Adam Partridge will be conducting the auction. TV and radio presenter Nick Hancock, president of The North West Lord’s Taverners, is to be the host for the evening.

Tickets are available from Chris Talbot on 01244 675630 or Lori Parker on 07742 212193.
