Recovering teenager Chloe Fraser jokes that one of the few positive things about being involved in a serious collision with a taxi is not having to attend school.

Chloe Fraser, from Cliveden Road, Lache, was airlifted to Liverpool’s Alder Hey Hospital in March after the incident at a roundabout just yards from her house.

She was crossing the road having just got off the bus on her way home from Chester Catholic High School.

Both legs were badly broken.

Asked if there was a positive aspect to what happened Chloe, 13, told The Chronicle: “There’s quite a lot actually. Not having to go to school!

“I met some nice ladies in hospital and when I got home I could go on my laptop all the time.”

Chloe, who briefly went back to school before breaking for summer, had to use a wheelchair at first and then crutches, but is now managing without them.

However, she must undergo another operation on August 14, hopefully to remove metal pins but there are concerns her right leg isn’t healing quickly enough and it may require a bone graft.

Chloe, who received lots of cards from well-wishers, remembers the accident clearly and even being conveyed to hospital by helicopter.

While staying at Alder Hey she was lucky enough to meet former Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler which was a treat because she and the whole family support the Reds.

One of the understandable effects is an enhanced fear of roads when she ventures outside. “I didn’t like roads any way,” said Chloe, who is fortunate not to suffer from any pain.

Chloe’s dad Kurt Williams, who arrived at the scene of the accident to find her lying in the road, recalled: “When she left here, she went in the helicopter, we were told she’s obviously got an open fracture but it’s suspected left and right femur, pelvis and internal injuries.

“So for us, until we got to Alder Hey and she had the scans, that was the worrying time, once they said ‘no internal injuries’ we were relieved.”

Shortly after the accident, friends and neighbours called for road safety measures at the roundabout.

Kurt and Chloe’s mum Kerry would support such measures, but the father of five said: “Since the accident there’s been nothing. No signs up or anything.

“There’s still cars flying up and down. There’s still no signs saying there’s a school. If you drive around Blacon it’s 20mph.

“What would the harm be for that road, if you had to drive at 20mph, it wouldn‘t be the end of the world.”

Ewloe-based solictor Mark Lampkin is seeking compensation for Chloe and two other pedestrians – Candy Rosedale, 22, also from Lache, and a male pedestrian struck on the A41 at Rowton. He has hit out at Cheshire Police for changing its policy so that he can no longer obtain full reports with all the relevant details.

As a result of Mr Lampkin’s concerns, police are now reviewing their processes. Supt John Armstrong, Head of Professional Standards, said: “The Cheshire Constabulary prides itself on its professionalism in delivering a high quality service. Where it is perceived that this service fall short of expected standards, we will review it and where appropriate, take any necessary steps.”
