A popular Chester gym is up for sale, but its current owners say staff and customers have nothing to worry about.

LA Fitness say they will be looking for a buyer for its Wrexham Road premises after the fitness chain confirmed last week the branch is one of 33 of its 80 gyms in the UK that will be sold.

It is the latest company hit by debts and competition who have been forced to cut corners in order to secure a long term future.

But staff and members of the Chester branch shouldn’t panic, as the company says it is looking for a new owner who will keep it open as a gym so there will be no job losses.

A spokesman for LA Fitness confirmed Chester was one of the 33 clubs they are looking to sell.  “This effectively means that over the next six months, LA Fitness will be working with various property agents to find a new  operator,” he said.

“Between now and then it will  be business as usual with no effect on staff members or customers.

“We expect when a new operator is found that existing memberships will be transferred with minimal impact.”

He added: “If by some chance there are some substantial changes, they would be given the opportunity to cancel their contracts.”

LA Fitness was started by South African entrepreneur Fred Turok and is owned by private equity firm MidOcean Partners.
