AN 85-YEAR-OLD woman was taken to hospital after injuring her hip when a thief snatched her handbag.

The robbery occurred shortly after 10am on Saturday, June 9 near Ethelda Drive in Kingsway, Chester.

The elderly victim, who is partially sighted, was walking with the aid of a white stick toward the bus stop when she was targeted by a man wearing a dark coloured hoodie.

He tapped her on the shoulder before snatching her bag.

In her attempts to hold on to her bag she fell to the ground and sustained heavy bruising to her side and hip. The victim was found on the floor by a passer-by who called for an ambulance.

The offender, who fled up Ethelda Drive and is thought to have got into a blue car driven by an accomplice, is described as being 5ft 2/3ins tall, of slim build, about 20 years-old, and wearing a dark jacket.

Cheshire police officers are currently carrying out house-to-house enquiries and urge residents to check their gardens and bins for the discarded bag.

The handbag is plain black leather and may contain the victim’s medication.
