AN ADVENTUROUS father battled torrential rain and winds as he pedalled 150 miles to raise thousands of pounds to make the dreams of terminally-ill children come true.

After 11 months of training, Matt Browning of Kingsley completed his gruelling charity challenge in just over 14 hours on a specially-made unicycle decorated in Union Jacks.

The 44-year-old father-of-one, who is this year’s chairman of Frodsham Round Table, crossed the finish line at Morecambe Bay after tackling rocky paths and balancing through strong winds on his one-wheeled bike to raise £4,000 for the Round Table’s Children’s Wish charity.

Speaking after the challenge, Matt said he would never forget the feeling of seeing the stunning scenery of Morecambe Bay and the massive support that he received throughout his journey.

“The challenge certainly took its toll on my legs and abdominal muscles but knowing that the money raised and publicity generated is helping to grant wishes for children with life-threatening illnesses was all the motivation I needed,” said Matt, who is still receiving money from the challenge to go towards sending children on once in a lifetime trips.

“I know it sounds like a cliché but I couldn’t have done it without the help of my mum. She’s fantastic. She was driving the van following me and was there at 5am passing me energy gels to keep me going.

“The support I’ve had from friends and family is immense, and a special thanks to Martin Cleworth who rode a good portion of the route with me, assisting with awkward and busy roads, literally stopping traffic and providing words of encouragement when I most needed it.”
