WORK has begun on giving a Chester school’s sixth form building a £300,000 revamp.

The King’s School has welcomed news of the upgrade, the latest development of the centre, as it adapts to an increasing intake of sixth formers.

Headteacher Chris Ramsey said: “In response to increased interest in King’s Sixth Form from external students and increasing numbers staying on to sixth form, these exciting new developments will ensure King’s Sixth Form gives its students the space and facilities that a 21st century A-level student needs.

“More room to study, greater access to IT Facilities and dedicated sixth form-only teaching rooms will help our students perform to the best of their abilities, and give them the platform on which to succeed in their studies.”

The current sixth form building was opened in 1989, and further developed to welcome girls into the school in 2003.

The centre will boast new study rooms, a bigger cafe with new IT facilities and a light and modern common room.

The project is being managed by architects Child Graddon Lewis and project work by Anwyl Construction Company Ltd.

Building work is expected to be completed by September.
