THE King’s School Chester has played host to two separate tournaments.

An invitational netball and football tournament for Year 5 and 6 children from schools across Chester and North Wales was held at the Wrexham Road-based school. This is the third year King’s has staged the tournament.

Winners in the plate competition this year was The Firs School for both football and netball.

In the cup competition, Waverton Community Primary School won in netball for the second year running and Upton Heath Primary School won the football contest.

Upton Heath has now been invited by Everton to play in a tournament at Finch Farm – Everton’s training ground – next month.

Twenty-eight pupils from King’s Year 9 group, who are currently doing a junior sports leaders’ award as part of the new enrichment courses, helped out on the day.

Four former students refereed the football, while the netball was umpired by trainee PE teachers from the University of Chester and King’s new netball coach Fran Cosgrove.

Scouts from Everton Football Club were also there on the day on the lookout for any new talent in the area.
