Bookworms at The King’s School in Chester are on track to take on the world.
Young readers at the Wrexham Road independent school fought tough competition to secure an overall victory in the Merseyside regional heat of the International Kid’s Lit Quiz.
Two teams entered the contest from the senior school and for the first time, a team of promising newcomers from the junior school, but it was the formidable team of Anna Harris, Lily Kenningham, Ted Toovey and Katy Wakeman who claimed overall victory and will be heading to London on December 7 to try to secure their place in the world final in Canada next July.
The Kid’s Lit Quiz is an annual literature quiz for students aged 10-13 years founded by New Zealand quizmaster Wayne Mills. Quizzes are held in Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa, United Kingdom and USA.
Teams of four students are asked to answer 100 questions on children’s literature divided into 10 categories, which vary each year. They work together to answer questions on a variety of categories that could include poetry, authors, titles, characters, film adaptations or even settings.
