WRITER Emi Howe had a number of “pant-tastic encounters” at Helsby Hillside Primary School.

Her fundraising effort, The Pants Hats Project, was the topic of the day with funfilled activities for every year group. Lucy, from Year 1, said: “I loved Pants Hats Day, it was lots of fun – especially being able to wear pants on my head!'

All of the money raised will be going to KidsCan – the children’s cancer research charity based in Manchester.

Since starting the project, Emi herself has been diagnosed with and treated for breast cancer, so the cause is very much close to her heart: “Celebrating The Pants Hats Project with the school has been a brilliant way to appreciate the positive work that cancer research charities do. I’m living proof.”

At a celebration and prize-giving assembly on Thursday, July 4, one lucky winner, Megan, was presented with original artwork created by writer and illustrator Leigh Hodgkinson, for her Smarty Pants creation. Other winners received kind donations from writers Stuart Reid and Caryl Hart.

Headteacher Craig Richardson said: “What a fantastic and fun day! The children had an enjoyable time but also had an opportunity to reflect on children who are less fortunate and to think about how we can help other people. Thanks to Emi for organising the event. As always, the school community supported us really well and we have raised a significant amount of money for KidsCan, a very worthwhile charity we are proud to support.”
