A 10-year-old boy from Hoole is gold standard when it comes to kickboxing.

Jarad Vidler has returned from the world championships in Italy with a gold medal, following support from Chronicle readers, family and friends.

The Newton Primary School pupil won the under 32KG light continuous 2 rounds category after travelling to La Spezia with his dad Nik to join Team England.

Other team members who did well include Jack Jerrard, 23, who won gold in the 69KG three round mat fight, Tarporley High School pupil Alice Wilkinson, 15, who came fourth in her category, and Bishops’ Blue Coat CE High School student Harvey Steele, 14, who also came fourth in his category.

Three time England, European and World champion coach Brian Nelson travelled with the team.

Around 10,000 competitors from all over the world attended the championships.
