A PARISH council meeting was held under the cover of darkness last night (Monday, April 6) when a cable fault led to a lengthy power cut.
The electrical problem affected more than 1,000 customers across Kelsall and Tarporley with about 20 not regaining power until 3am today (Tuesday).
Kelsall Parish Council were holding their monthly meeting as well as their annual meeting when the power was cut to the village community centre.
But rather than abandoning the meeting, determined councillors continued with their annual reports, planning applications and community issues using torches and candlelight.
Cllr Rev Ian Enticott, of St Philip’s Church, was able to provide the candles from his ‘office’ across the road, allowing chairman John Leather to continue proceedings.
Manweb Scottish Power confirmed that a cable fault in the area of Church Street and Duttons Lane had caused the power cut.
The majority of customers had power restored by 9.40pm last night but 90 were left without electricity until 12.50am while 20 were not switched back on until 3am.
A spokesperson said: “We apologise for any inconvenience caused to our customers.”
