A TALENTED young singer from Elton is celebrating landing a coveted place at the world-famous Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts in London.
Katy Saxon, of Old Hall Lane, has just become one of only a handful of budding stage stars who make it each year into the academy, whose past graduates span the years from Noel Coward to Claire Sweeney.
She is also one of the few 16 year olds ever to be accepted.
Katy, who has been singing since she was seven years old, made it through the tough auditions held in the capital about a month ago.
She will now move down to London to start her studies in earnest, with the aim of a full-time career in musical theatre.
Katy previously studied performing arts at West Cheshire College in Ellesmere Port and has appeared in productions with the Stagecoach theatre group, including Joseph and his Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat in Manchester, and Ellesmere Port Light Opera Company.
Next month she is due to compete in the semi-finals of the Merseyside Young Singer of the Year in Liverpool.
Her proud dad Paul said: 'Getting into the Italia Conti really is a fantastic achievement for any young performer.
'There was hundreds of young people from all over the world at the auditions in London and Katy was only one of eight singers to win places.'
Katy is now looking for sponsorship and has a summer job at Sainsbury's in Ellesmere Port to earn money towards her keep at the academy.
