A WINSFORD girl is eagerly looking forward to leading the fun when Davenham celebrates its 40th anniversary carnival this summer.

Katie Kinsey, a pupil of the County High School, Leftwich, was chosen to wear the crown at selections in Davenham Royal British Legion Club on Sunday.

The 14-year-old decided to enter for the title after being picked to be lady-in-waiting last year.

Others chosen included Ruby Fairy Queen, Courtney Moore; Ruby Princess, Caroline Walford; and Ruby Rosebud, Laura Baker.

As preparations for this year's ruby anniversary carnival gather pace, police cleared the way for a memorable start to the proceedings by announcing they will man the parade.

Fears that the parade might have to be cancelled or drastically curtailed followed a police announcement last year that manpower and resources might have to be diverted.

The reprieve has given organisers just the fillip they need as they forge ahead with plans to make this year's carnival, to be held on Saturday, June 17, a bumper event.
