THE third Tesco store in the Chester area opens in August, creating 189 full-time and part-time jobs.

A special recruitment centre has been set up at Poplar House in Park West, Sealand Road, for people to apply.

Store manager Matthew France said: “These are local jobs for local people and I am very proud to have played a part in breathing new life into the heart of the community.

“My main aim is to deliver the Tesco values, which include giving customers fantastic service and providing quality products at low prices. Customers can expect a clean, bright, spacious and modern store with a fast and friendly service.”

The 45,000 sq ft superstore is being built on the former Kwik Save site on Sealand Road. The company already has major stores in Frodsham Street and on Broughton Shopping Park.

The new branch will have 25 checkouts and brings the total number of people employed by Tesco in the Chester area to more than 1,000.

It will have a fish counter, hot and cold delicatessen, bakery, clothing, electrical, newspapers, magazines, sandwiches and fresh fruit and vegetables.

The official opening ceremony on Monday, August 11, at 8am will involve a cheque donation to a good cause.

Store opening hours will be Monday-Saturday 8am-10pm and 11am-5pm Sundays.

To apply for a full-time or part-time position, contact the recruitment centre on 01244 398405. The centre will be open 8am-5pm Monday-Friday and 10am-4pm Saturday.
