A KIND-HEARTED youngster is hoping to raise funds for fellow cancer sufferers by raffling off her giant England cuddly toy during the World Cup.

Football fan Jade Basnett, 12, who was diagnosed with leukaemia in September 2004, wants to donate cash to Liverpool's Alder Hey Children's Hospital as a thank you for the ongoing treatment she receives there.

The brave youngster also hopes the euphoria surrounding England's bid to win the cup will spark interest in the five-foot lion she won in a competition run by the Bear Factory in Chester, to give some money to Claire House and the Countess.

Her mother Amanda, of Whitby, is calling on local businesses and pubs to raise awareness of their appeal and sell their raffle tickets.

She said: 'With the World Cup starting soon Jade thought it'd be a great idea. She loves football and is a big Everton fan.

'Jade really wants to give something back to other children, especially those who may not recover.

'She is doing well at the moment and wants to do this to thank Alder Hey.

'We want to get the bear around as many places as possible and would appreciate any help from businesses or pubs because we want to raise as much money as we can.'

Ironically, like her favourite England player Wayne Rooney, Jade will miss the

Three Lions first World Cup game as she is in Disneyland Paris thanks to Make-A-Wish Foundation UK, which helps turn the wishes of children aged three to 17 living with life-threatening illnesses into reality. To help Jade's appeal, call Amanda Basnett on 07745 449973.
