A road in Middlewich has been closed as a result of a jackknifed lorry.

The A54 Middlewich Road has been closed in both directions between the Birch Lane junction and the Road One junction following the incident which took place at around 3.45pm today (Tuesday, October 11).

Motorists heading towards Chester from the Middlewich area are likely to face long delays while the lorry is recovered.

Cheshire Police and the North West Ambulance Service are in attendance.

No serious injuries have been reported following the accident.

Diversions are currently in place and motorists are advised to avoid the area.

A Cheshire Police spokesman said: "We were called at about 3.45pm this afternoon to reports of a lorry which has jackknifed and blocked Middlewich Road.

"There are not believed to be any serious injuries.

"Diversions are in place but it is not known when the road will re-open."
