Rising star Tom Hughes, who was born and bred in Chester, will enter living rooms across the nation when the first episode of ITV's eagerly anticipated Queen Victoria biopic hits the small screen.

The first episode of Victoria, which follows the early life of one of history's most influential monarchs, will air on Sunday night (August 28), and former Upton-by-Chester High School pupil Tom, 30, stars as her husband Prince Albert.

The eight-part series will chronicle Queen Victoria's public and private lives, from her accession to the throne at just 18 through to her marriage to Prince Albert.

Doctor Who actress Jenna Coleman takes on the title role, while Rufus Sewell stars as Lord Melbourne, Victoria’s first prime minister.

RADA-trained Hughes, who doesn't appear until the third episode, is best known for his roles in the BBC's legal drama Silk and Cold War drama The Game, in addition to modelling gigs for the likes of Burberry.

He previously told the Chronicle that he wouldn't be where he is today if he hadn't joined Jigsaw Music Theatre when he was 12.
